Bathgate West Nursery, located on Millburn Road, has long stood as a cornerstone of learning in the heart of Bathgate. Originally built as a primary school, and later serving as a much-loved nursery, the building has welcomed generations of children through its doors, offering a trusted space where local young people took their first steps into education, creativity, and community life. Many will fondly remember not only classrooms and nativity plays, but also adventures in the adjacent Wee Mair Park, a cherished green space that became an outdoor extension of the school and nursery’s nurturing environment.
In 2008, the nursery proudly celebrated its centenary, marking 100 years of service to the families of Bathgate. The occasion brought together past and present pupils, staff, and community members to honour the nursery’s enduring legacy, a legacy built on care, connection, and early learning.
In 2025, following a formal consultation process, West Lothian Council approved the closure of Bathgate West Nursery. While this marked the end of its educational chapter, the building remains a valued community asset, rich in memory and potential.
Bathgate Music Hub seeks to honour that legacy by transforming the site into a vibrant, inclusive centre for music and community connection. By reimagining this familiar space, the Hub will continue the building’s tradition of nurturing growth, this time through creativity, collaboration, and the shared language of music.

Guided by the existing floor plan, we believe that only moderate internal modifications are required to adapt the building for multi-use purposes. This approach preserves its architectural character while making way for flexible rehearsal spaces, performance areas, and rooms for workshops and community gatherings. With thoughtful reconfiguration, Bathgate West can once again become a place where people come to learn, create, and connect, this time through the transformative power of music.
